Minnie Rebecca JohnsonSimpson went home to be with her Lord on Friday, June 13, 2008, at her residence in Calera at the age of 80 years, 7 months 9 days. Minnie was born on Friday, November 4, 1927, to Ralph K. and Vera Hamilton Johnson in Calera.

She was a lifelong resident of Calera and a lifelong member of the Calera Church of Christ.

Her funeral service will be conducted at that congregation on Monday, June 16, at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Tom Adams and Bro. Larry Adams officiating.

Minnie was a homemaker all of her life. She married Elmer Simpson in 1949 in Denison, Texas. They raised their family in Calera, and they are all residents there as well. Her greatest joy was being with her children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her family was very precious to her. Another thing she took great enjoyment in was entertaining her Calera High School classmates from the graduating class of 1945 in her home each year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Vera Johnson; her husband, Elmer Simpson; two brothers, Billy Johnson and Ralph Everett Johnson.

Minnie is survived by one son, Dwayne Simpson and wife Carla; two daughters, Dana Simpson and Dianne Harp, all of Calera. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Simpson and wife Amy of Leonard, Texas; Carley Simpson; Kaci Bowers and husband Phillip and Katie Harp, all of Calera. Her great grandchildren are Kailey Bowers of Calera and Laura Leigh Simpson of Leonard. Two nieces and one nephew also survive Minnie. They are April Butler and husband Sonny of Glen Heights, Texas; Allison Cimrhanzel and husband Bobby of McKinney, Texas, and Shane Johnson and wife Carol of Tyler, Texas. Minnie is also survived by two special lifelong friends, JoAnne Jackson and Billie Jo Sweeney.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera. Pallbearers include John Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Mike McCollum, Sonny Butler, Bobby Cimrhanzel and John Coley. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Jackson, Lynn Jackson, Robert McVeigh and Eddie Nelson.

Friends may greet the family at the home in Calera.
