Doretha Gay (Kropp) Roper passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 94. Gay was born on March 31, 1930, in Paris, Texas to parents, Jacob Albert and Edna May (Jenkins) Kropp. Gay attended school at Cobb and graduated from Caddo High School in 1948 and later from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with her degree in Education in 1972. She married Fred Alan Roper on September 18, 1948, in Sherman, Texas and they were united as one for 62 plus years until Fred's passing on February 17, 2011. Gay was a loving and devoted teacher of children until her retirement in 1994. She was of the Baptist faith, and she enjoyed teaching, working, playing bingo and dominoes, and walking. Her greatest joy in life was her family and the time she spent with them.
Gay is preceded in death by her husband Fred Alan Roper; parents Jacob and Edna Kropp; brothers Albert, Carl, Eugene, and James Kropp, and Baby Kropp; and sisters Doris Kropp, Aletha Caviness, Juanita Armstrong, and Lucille Harris.
Gay is survived by her sons Fred D. Roper and wife Terry and Charles A. Roper; granddaughter Gretchen Roper King and husband Gordon; grandsons Chad Roper and Benjamin Roper; great grandchildren Chantel King, Ronald Baughman III, and Lucas Roper and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. Anthony Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery with Ronald Baughman III, Chantel King, Gordon King Jr., Bill Gordon, Chad Roper, and Benjamin Roper serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 12-2 PM Tuesday prior to the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
