Gene Autry Johnson, of Mead, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 88 in Denison, Texas. He was born on February 15, 1937, in Durant, Oklahoma, to Robert and Verdie (Watts) Johnson.
Gene was a skilled and knowledgeable auto mechanic. He was a man who enjoyed the great outdoors, particularly the simple joy of mowing. Traveling was another of Gene's interests. He loved exploring new places and creating new memories. Above all, Gene was a family man at heart. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his two sons, Randy Lee Johnson of Mead, Oklahoma, and Jeffrey Glen Johnson of Victoria, Texas; his stepchildren, Floyd J. Dyer and Billie C. Gilbert; his 102 year old sister, Laverne; his fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Verdie Johnson, his beloved wife, Linda K. Johnson, his sisters Thelma, Doris, Catherine, Joy, and his brothers Leonard and Harold.
Family Hour will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, June 9, 2025, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Johnny Young officiating. Gene will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery following his service.
