Jerry Downs

Jerry Downs a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this earthly life on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the age of 81 years 1 month and 13 days. He was born in Blue Ridge, Texas on Thursday, December 15, 1932 to Joe Bailey and Rose (VanBevers) Downs. Jerry married Yvonne Rigdon in Durant, Oklahoma on Saturday, December 19, 1959.

Jerry was a member of the Bushnell Baptist Church, and the Bryan County Antique Tractor Club. He loved farming and especially the time he spent with his children on the farm. Jerry considered it one of his greatest blessings to be able to participate in his children's activities as they grew-up. He was a friendly person who enjoyed meeting his buddies at Chucks Corner for coffee and good conversation.

Mr. Downs is survived wife, Yvonne Downs of the home; daughter, Cheryl Adams and husband Bill of Durant,Oklahoma; sons, Steve Downs and wife Paula of Durant,Oklahoma and David Downs and wife Darla of Durant,Oklahoma; sister, Willie Mae Page of Flower Mound,Texas; grandchildren, Kyle Downs of Calera, Oklahoma, Brandon Downs and wife Lynnsie of Calera, Oklahoma, Sierra Downs of Durant,Oklahoma, Courtney Giles and husband Robbie of Sherman, Texas and Shawn Morales of Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Eli Downs, Cambri Morales, Bentley Giles, Korbin Downs and Payden Downs; step-grandchildren, Casey Miller, Billy Adams, Misty Goodwin and husband Lee and Brenda Brown and husband Justin; step-great-grandchildren, Issac and Randal Adams, Natalie Eversole, Karlie and Luke Goodwin; Garrett and Gavin Brown; sister-in-law, Geneva Downs of Durant, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Downs was prededed in death by his parents; Joe and Rose Downs; brother, J.D. Downs.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.

Family Hour will be from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Service to honor his memory will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant with Darel Bunch officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Downs, Brandon Downs, Shawn Morales, Jerry Downs, Randy Downs and Brad Love. Jeff Adams will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
