JoAnn Dewberry

Funeral services for JoAnnShaffer Dewberry, a longtime Bromide area resident, were held Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Service in Atoka with Bro. J. D. Leavelle officiating assisted by Fred Williams.

Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery with Brown's Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dewberry was born July 7, 1934 to Joseph Shaffer and Mary Wolf Miller at Peoria, Ilinois and passed away December 2, 2010 at the Texoma Medical Center at the age of 76.

She graduated Elgin High School in Elgin, Illinois in 1953 and married Robert M. Brooks on November 19, 1955 at Roswell, New Mexico. He preceded her in death and she later married Jesse Dewberry on October 29, 1966 at Elgin, Illinois.

JoAnn was a homemaker and was a member of the Wilson Baptist Church.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed doing crafts and beading.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Dewberry of Bromide, Oklahoma; children, Michael Brooks of Bromide, Oklahoma, Donald Brooks of Durant, Oklahoma, Mary Morgan and husband Dennis of Wapanucka, Oklahoma, Robert Brooks and wife Linda of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Mark Dewberry of Bromide, Oklahoma, and Linda Dewberry of of Warren Roberts, Georgia; grandchildren, Joseph Morgan of Wapanucka, Oklahoma, Jacob Morgan of Wapanucka, Oklahoma, J. D. Dewberry of Bromide, Oklahoma, Audrey Rochell and husband Colby of Surfside, Texas, Jennifer Keelling and husband Shane of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Zelda Pate and husband of Antlers, Oklahoma, Nelda Henry and husband Don of Atoka, Oklahoma, four great grandchildren; along with fifteen nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Mary and Art Miller; father, Joseph Shaffer; first husband, Robert M. Brooks; children, Steve Dewberry and Julie Dewberry; sister, Sarah "Sally" Fisk; grandparents, Anton and Mary Wolf; sisters-in-law, Martha Brooks long with another sister-in-law and four brothers-in-law.

Casketbearers were Todd Shawn, Victor Dewberry, Skip Dewberry, Johnny Dewberry, Ricky Melver and Vince McIver. Honorary bearers will be Cecil Smith and Ray Baxter.

Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
