Obituary for Joy Evelyn Cross
Joy Evelyn Cross was born April 19, 1929 in Durant, Oklahoma to Virda Ona Adeline and Robert Melvin Johnson. She passed away October 28, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 9 days.
Joy grew up in Durant and attended school at Westside Schools. After leaving school she later began her family and continued to work on the family farm. Joy obtained employment at the Durant Nursing Home as a cook. She retired and moved to Elk City in the late 90's. Joy also enjoyed gardening, quilting, canning and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and sisters, Thelma Garner, Leonard Johnson, Katherine MacWilliams, Doris Jones and Harold Johnson.
She is survived by her 7 children, Virginia Cross, Atlanta, GA, Larry Cross and wife, Jo Harold Cross and wife, Sandy, James Cross and wife, Tina, Calera, OK, Terry Cross and wife, Nancy, San Antonio, TX, Boyd Cross and wife, Melissa, Sherman, TX, Raymond Cross, Elk City, OK; numerous grandchildren, 1 brother, Gene Johnson and wife, Linda, Krem, TX; 1 sister, Laverne Madeox, Durant, OK; 2 sister-in-laws, Tommie Jean Johnson, Durant, OK, Faye Jean Johnson, Sherman, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
