December 29, 1943 - October 2, 2023

Sammy F. Brown passed away on October 2, 2023, at the age of 79. Sammy was born December 29, 1943, in Caddo Oklahoma to Joe B. and Grace Brown. He attended Caddo Schools for his first three years then the family moved to Calera. He graduated from Calera High School in 1962.

Upon graduation, Sammy joined the U.S. Air Force, serving four years as an aircraft mechanic. He had numerous assignments in the military including several stateside, Guam, and Okinawa, with his most enjoyable assignment being in Hawaii. After completing his service to his country, Sammy came back to Calera. Soon after his return home, Sammy’s classmate, Michael Chappell and his wife Nancy introduced Sammy to Nancy’s cousin, Linda Davis. As it turned out, Nancy and Michael were quite matchmakers. Sammy and Linda were married June 23, 1967, in Calera, Oklahoma.

Sammy and Linda lived in Plano and Richardson, TX for a few years then moved back to Calera. Sammy and his brother Joe established a machine shop in Durant. While owning and operating this business, Sammy attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in 1974. They operated their business for several years before selling it to Potter’s Sausage in Durant.

After Sammy and Joe both worked for some time at Potter’s Sausage, they both moved on to work for other companies, including Ultra Carbon Corporation in Sherman where they both worked for several years until the company sold and closed. After the closure of Ultra Carbon, Sammy and Joe established their successful machine shop, J & S Manufacturing in Calera where they both finished their careers and entered retirement.

Preceding him in death are his parents Joe B. and Grace Brown, brother Joe Brown, sister Mona Perry, sister Barbara Young, and brother-in-law Larry Young. His surviving family includes his wife Linda Brown, son Alan Brown, wife Julie, and granddaughter Sydnee Brown, all of Calera; grandson Mitchell, wife Brittany, and great grandchildren Kasen, Riley, and Presley of St. Peters, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, as well as many dear friends.

Graveside services will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Calera at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 6, 2023, with Pastor Jerry Peterson overseeing the service. Public viewing hours will be on Wednesday from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM and Thursday from 8:00 AM-8:00 PM. The family will host friends and family for a celebration of Sammy’s life after the service at the home of Alan and Julie Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials for Sammy be sent to Rosehill Cemetery Inc., P.O. Box 441, Calera, OK 74730, or to Faith Lutheran Church, 3802 N. Washington Ave., Durant, OK 74701.
