Nancy Vay Bowerman, 79, of Coalgate, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Faith Presbyterian Hospice (The T. Boone Picken’s Center) in Dallas, Texas.
Nancy was born on Sunday, December 30, 1945, to Lewis Flimm and Vivian “Ruth” (Winberry) Straw in Shawnee, OK. She married Larry Benjamin Bowerman on July 23, 1966, in Coalgate, OK. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2020 before Larry passed that same year.
Nancy graduated high school in Wapanucka, OK. She attended Beauty School in Dallas, TX. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great aunt. She loved spending time with her family (immediate and extended both), friends and grand dogs. She enjoyed researching and documenting genealogy, cooking, sewing, crosswords, coloring, puzzles, bingo, listening to country and gospel music (especially Elvis and Reba McEntire) and was a fan of OU football. Most of all she loved being a Mom and Gram Gram.
Nancy spent several years volunteering at the Coal County Genealogical Society where she helped organize, index, catalog and provide content for the website for Coal County residents (including where they are buried for easy reference). Nancy and Larry also traveled to numerous cemeteries in Coal County and took photos of monuments to attach to the website for reference.
After Larry passed, Nancy moved to Texas to be closer to her kids and grandkids.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Lisa (Bowerman) Lindley and her husband Michael of Lewisville, TX, son James Bowerman and his wife Chandra of Prosper, TX, grandson Christopher Bowerman and his wife Orvia of McKinney, TX, granddaughter Briana (Bowerman) Molina and her husband Denis of Little Elm, TX, granddaughter Trinity Bowerman of Prosper, TX, great grandson Christian James (CJ) Bowerman of Little Elm, TX and great grandsons Dominic and Dennis Molina of Little Elm, TX, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great grand nieces, great grand nephews, cousins and friends. She recently learned that she has a new great grandbaby on the way due in July 2025 that she was very excited about. Nancy’s absence will be felt by all who knew and loved her.
Nancy is proceeded in death by her husband Larry Benjamin Bowerman, parents Lewis and Vivan “Ruth” (Winberry) Straw, brother Robert Straw, and sister Vivian Straw.
Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Bowerman, Denis Molina, CJ Bowerman, Dominic Molina, Dennis Molina, Bryce Burns and Kelly Wren.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mark Johnson, Orbin “PeeWee” Bowerman, Bill Sinclair, and Terry Calhoun.
Her family suggests donations be made in Nancy’s honor to National Kidney Foundation at support.kidney.org, or American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
Nancy’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2025, at Wapanucka Church of Christ with Brother Wendell Ingram officiating. Her burial will immediately follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Wapanucka, Oklahoma.
