Bobby Bates passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years 11 months 13 days. He was born on Tuesday, October 25, 1932 in Cooper, Texas to Jessie and Ambia (Osbin) Bates. Bobby married Mary Ellen Russell in Wichita Falls, Texas on Thursday, March 17, 1955.

Mr. Bates moved to Durant, Oklahoma in 1982 from Norwalk, California. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was a Army Combat Engineer Specialist. Bobby was a proud service officer for the VFW in Durant and participated in their honor guard for over 20 years. He was a faithful member of the Victory Tabernacle Church in Durant, Oklahoma.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Mary Bates of the home; sons, Bob Bates and wife Paula of Lakewood Ranchetts, Oklahoma and Steven Bates and wife Rita of Silo, Oklahoma; sister, Billy Adams of Bell Gardens, California; grandchildren, Stephanie Tomlinson and husband Tommie of Sherman, Texas, Cynthia Bates and husband Tony of Durant, Oklahoma, Scott Bates and wife Jacia of Durant, Oklahoma, Dustin Bates of Silo, Oklahoma and Spencer Bates of Silo, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Braydon Tomlinson of Sherman, Texas, Trevor McCormack of Durant, Oklahoma, Presley Bates of Durant, Oklahoma, Natasha Gray of Durant, Oklahoma and Makynna Tomlinson of Sherman, Texas as well as many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Bates is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Ambia Bates; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Family Hour will be 7-8:00 PM on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the Rosehill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma with Rev. Doyle Pair and Chaplin Batman officiating.
