Betty Jean Scherer Barkley

Betty Jean Barkley a resident of Calera, Oklahoma passed away in Allen, Texas on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the age of 84 years 10 months and 20 days. She was born in Healdton, Oklahoma to Mac and Virginia (Hardwick) Scherer on Monday, April 30, 1928. Betty married E.L. "Tim" Barkley in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in October 19, 1946 and they were married for 50 years.

Betty grew up in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area and graduated from the Capitol Hill High School in 1945. She and her husband had 10 children together. Betty dedicated her life to caring for her family and home. She loved to be outside in her garden, sewing and reading.

Mrs. Barkley is survived by her children, Linda Smith of Calera, Oklahoma, Sue Markham and husband William of Colbert, Oklahoma; daugther in law, Judy Barkley of Calera, Oklahoma; children, David Barkley and wife Joyce of Calera, Oklahoma, John Alan Barkley and wife Shelia of Arpelar, Oklahoma, Judy Gatlin and husband Roger of Calera, Oklahoma, Jimmy Barkley and wife Bonnie of Achille, Oklahoma, Martha Daniel and husband Philip of Plano, Texas, Patty Gregston and husband Bob of Talala, Oklahoma and Michael Barkley of Bonham, Texas; grandchildren, Tina Smith, Chris Markham and wife Gena, Missy Markham, LaDonna Barkley-Hobbs, Ronald Barkley, Jr. and wife Vicki, Patrick Barkley and wife Kristen, Stephanie Rozelle and husband T paul, Shannon Barkley and wife Cindy, Crissey Barton, Brandi Rusk and husband Tony, Stacy Gatlin and wife Lacey, Michelle Gatlin-Burgess, Bradley Barkley, Jason Barkley, Amy Kramer and husband Matt, Jonathan Barkley and wife Chasity, Rebecca Evans and husband Matt, Zachary Daniel, Timothy Gregston and wife Jessica, Kayla Gregston, Matthew Gregston and Mika Barkley; great grandchildren, Aaron, Austin, Ally, Ciara, Sienna, Eli, Preston, Parker, Remmington, Payton, Paul, Emma, Brayden, Ashton, Braxton, Ryker, Rachel, Jessica, Joseph, Alexis, Tyler, Raleigh, Gracey, Logan, Hailey, Hayden, Leslie, Michael, Johathan Wayne, Jacob and Shelby; great great grandchild, Mason.

Mrs. Barkley was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Mac Scherer; husband, Emuel Leroy Barkley; son, Ronald Leroy Barkley; sisters, Lucille Fairbanks, Louise Oglesby and Maxine Wilson.

Family hour will be from 6-7:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Celebration of her life will be at 2:00 PM on March 22, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Calera, Oklahoma with Rev. Jacob Toews officiating. Internment will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Calera. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Barkley's grandsons.
