Dorothy Sharp Backest, 85, of Calera, went to be with her Lord and all her loving relatives on Sunday, April 27, 2008. She was born Sunday, May 14, 1922, in Calera, Oklahoma, to Marion Lee and Clarisse Vian Ray Sharp.

Dorothy married L.C. Backest on June 20, 1942, in Durant, Oklahoma.

Dorothy was a longtime resident of Calera. She was a member of the Calera United Methodist Church.

With her daughter and granddaughter by her side, she died peacefully and without pain thanks to our gracious Lord. Oh what a glorious reunion she is having.

Mama Dorothy was a very loving and caring person. Her family will always remember her beautiful smiles and gentle manners. No matter what came her way especially in her last few years, she showed great courage and a greater faith in her Lord.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, L.C. Backest; son, Gary Backest; son-in-law, Larry Don Grubbs, seven brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Leanne Trussell and husband Jerry of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Janice Grubbs Pickering and husband Don of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter-in-law, Pat Backest of Denton, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Mama we love you and always respected you. Our hearts are heavy now but we know you are with daddy and all the people who love you. Forever in our hearts and prayers you will be. There could not have been a more caring and loving Mother than you. Remember you have taught us well and we will be forever in your debt. Mama, keep hearing the music.

A celebration of her life will be on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Calera United Methodist Church in Calera, Oklahoma with the Rev. Roland Barrick and Rev. Randa Norman officiating.

Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera. As their "Bama" requested, pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Family hour will be 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. today, April 29, 2008, at Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home in Durant.

Mama's words about Daddy... "I would not change anything in my life. I had some troubles but we overcame them and I loved your father from the day I first saw him."

Condolences may be sent to the family at dhfh@communicomm.com.

Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
