Verda Thornton, a resident of Durant, Oklahoma, left this life, and started a new life with her Savior, on Tuesday August 22, 2017 at the age of 77 years 9 months and 13 days. She was born on November 9, 1939 in Mead, Oklahoma to Ernest F. and Frances (Davis) Petty. Verda married Darrell Thornton in Durant, Oklahoma on July 1, 1983.
Verda was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma. She was employed by; TG&Y, Gibson's, and was a CNA for Mays Home Health. Verda loved to read inspirational, religious books, and look for treasures at garage sales. She loved her family and the time they spent together, she especially cherished her grandchildren.
Mrs. Thornton is survived by her husband, Darrell of the home; daughters, Chrystal Thornton of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Thornton and Isias Durant of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Doris Pitts of Princeton, Texas; grandchildren, David Robinson of Durant, Oklahoma, Ashley Hayes of New York, New York, Cassaundra Mead of Durant, Oklahoma, Zaylee Mead of Durant, Oklahoma, Joshua Thornton of Ringling, Oklahoma, Shelby Northcott of Durant, Oklahoma, and Mathayus Durant of Durant, Oklahoma; nephews, Chuck Pitts of Princeton, Texas, Eric Pitts of Princeton, Texas, and Donnie Joe Pitts of Princeton, Texas; and niece, Stacey Pitts of Princeton, Texas.
Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Frances Petty; beloved sons, Danny and Donnie Robinson; and step-son, Charles Thornton.
Family hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Thursday August 24th at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A church service will be at 10:00 AM Friday August 25th at the Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Anthony Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Armstrong, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be David Robinson, Joshua Lane, Isias Kelly Durant, Dean Mitchell, Sam Ham, and Jeff Patton.
