Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Northwest Church of Christ for Joe Barrett Maxson, 43, Durant, who died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at OU Medical Center, Norman. Jerry Gardner, Doug Moesel and Mickey Davis will officiate.
He was born Thursday, July 18, 1963, in Searcy, Ark., to Joe M. Maxson and Ruth E. (Barrett) Maxson. He graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater in 1983. He was active in 4-H and FFA and was a local, state and national winner in 4-H and FFA as well an the National Junior Horticulture Association. He enjoyed traveling around the U.S. with the Oklahoma delegation of the NJHA. His greatest enjoyment was working in the greenhouse and doing anything with plants. He was a joy to be around and brightened the lives of all who met him. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents A. W. and Mildred Barrett and Clyde and Geneva Maxson, aunt and uncles Billy and Betty Bailey and Dr. Paul Barrett.
He is survived by parents Dr. Joe and Ruth Maxson, of the home; grandmother Juanita Maxson, McAlester; aunts and uncles Lynn and Georgia Bohannon, Sulpher, Gary and Norma Littleton, Ada, and Arden Barrett, Oklahoma City; brother Stephen Maxson, Durant; brother and sister-in-law Brian and Janeva Maxson, Norman; niece Tacie Maxson, Norman; nephews Troy Brantley and Brayden Brantley, Norman; cousins Kendell Bohannon, Denver, Colo., Jana Taylor, Arlington, Texas, Andy Littleton, Eric Littleton and Shannon Pentz, Edmond, Sabrina Taylor and Brac Barrett, Oklahoma City, Kent Lee and Kregg Lee, Oklahoma City, Tara Petroll, Brent Bailey and Barrett Bailey, Dallas, Texas, Brett Bailey, Yukon, and Scott Lee, Jones.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Armstrong, with Ron Boyer, Ike Miller, Charlie Davis, Gary Wright, Clay Jones and Robert Bourne serving as pallbearers and Calvin Gordon, E.F. Hawkins, Lon Dillard, Paul Mauck and Fred Mashburn serving as honorary pallbearers. Andy Burns will be the song leader.
Family hour will be from 5:50-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
