Geretta Sue Hatcher (Wallace), age 81, passed from this life on April 8, 2026, in Fresno, California. She was born on October 15, 1944, in Texas to Charles Marion Wallace and Ima Henri Wallace.
On January 20, 1967, Geretta married the love of her life, Earnest Wayne Hatcher, in Durant, Oklahoma. Together they shared 58 years of marriage, building a life centered on love and family until his passing on August 31, 2025.
Geretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Owen Wayne Hatcher (born February 23, 1971), her grandchildren, Shannon Roberts, Samantha Sanchez, Rachel Fisk, and Dezarae Moreno, and her beloved great-grandchildren: Devin, Dexter, Alfaro, Judith, Julian, Nicolas, Zayden, Jack, and Lilyanna. She is also survived by her siblings, Laura Wallace and Jerry Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Marion Wallace and Ima Henri Wallace, and her husband, Earnest Wayne Hatcher.
Geretta lived a life marked by quiet strength and steady devotion. She worked in housecleaning and faithfully served her family as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She and her husband made their home in Selma, California, where they raised their son. After many years in California, they retired and moved back to Oklahoma in 2008, before returning to Fresno, California in recent years.
She found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life, gardening, writing letters, camping, reading, and birdwatching. Known for being soft-spoken and quiet, Geretta was also patient, gentle, kind, and deeply loving. She carried a quiet firmness when needed and was always diligently at work, caring for her home and those she loved.
Geretta was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, worshiping with the Coleman Avenue Church of Christ in Colbert, Oklahoma, and later with the Kingsburg Church of Christ in Kingsburg, California. Her faith was central to her life, and she was known for her love of God and her commitment to living a Christian life.
Above all, Geretta will be remembered for her deep love for her family and her unwavering faith. Her gentle spirit and steady presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma with Christopher Roberts officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Armstrong, Oklahoma.
