Rev. Charles David Williams, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected Christian minister, passed away peacefully at his home in Bennington, Oklahoma on January 20, 2026. Born on December 10, 1935, in Anson, Texas, to the late Sidney Lee Williams and Minnie Mae (Pitts) Williams, his life spanned 90 remarkable years, during which he touched countless lives with his faith, compassion, and kindness.
After graduating from Bennington High School, Charles embarked on a carpentry apprenticeship in Ft. Worth until an eye injury on the job forced him to reconsider his career. However, after a short time he returned to carpentry and built custom homes for many families throughout the years, specializing in cabinetry. On July 10, 1955, Charles married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Norris, at the Old Baptist Church on Cade Highway. They returned to Bryan County, making their home and raising their children with warmth, strong values, and a deep sense of love for one another, where in 1968 he built the home where Peggy still resides.
Charles was a man of strong convictions, leading a life devoted to the ministry as a Baptist preacher for 70 years. He served several congregations over the years, including Wade, Blue, and Banty, where he shared his passion for faith and the teachings of Christ with all who would listen. His dedication to the church was unwavering, and he cherished his role, fostering belonging and faith among his brethren.
In addition to his ministerial duties, Charles greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He loved spending time in the woods and on the river, coon hunting with his dogs and fur-trapping. He also had a creative side, using his carpentry talents to craft beautiful barnwood frames.
Charles was known for his strong and steadfast character. Described as stern but caring, stubborn yet compassionate, his generosity extended beyond his family, even bringing home hitchhikers to stay overnight on the couch.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife Peggy, of their home; their children: son David Williams and wife Deborah of Denison, Texas; son Paul Williams of Sherman, Texas; daughter Leah Campo and husband Rodney of Bennington, Oklahoma; and daughter MaryBeth Singleton and husband Wes of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Charles was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and he cherished the bonds he formed with his grandchildren: grandsons Josh Williams, Blake Williams (Maggie), and Billy Williams; granddaughters Laura Robinson (Kris), Misty Campo (Daniel), Erica Campo, Molly Fain (Parker), and Chloe Singleton (Kennedy); 13 great-grandchildren; and special family friend Gary Kreger. His legacy will always live in the hearts of those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Lewis Williams; sister Sadie Johnson; daughter-in-law Wanda Williams; daughter-in-law Chree Williams; and grandson Jordan Campo.
Rev. Charles David Williams will be remembered not just for his years of service but for the love he showed his family and community, reminding us all of the importance of compassion, faith, and generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will resonate for generations to come.
The Williams Family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the caring staff at Victory Hospice, especially Kendra, Lindsey, and Angie, for their exceptional care during these difficult weeks. Your compassion made a significant difference in Charles's journey.
