Effie Faye Harris Weakley

weakley-e-f

October 5, 1924 ~ November 10, 2024

On Sunday November 10, 2024, Effie Faye Harris, Weakley, age 100, passed peacefully from this earth surrounded by family and close friends at her home in Durant, OK. Faye was born near Wade, OK on October 5th, 1924, to William Barker Harris and Etta Fay Gore, Harris. She had six half siblings and was the eldest of six children born to Etta and Barker Harris. Faye attended school at Wade, OK.

During World War II, at the age of 18, Faye moved to Richmond, CA where she became a welder in the shipyards. In 1945, after returning to Bryan County, she married George Robert Weakley Jr. (Junior) in Yuba, OK. They established a home in Albany, OK, where they raised their family and lived throughout their 61 years of marriage. After the death of her husband, Faye moved to Durant, OK to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Faye enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing games, camping and riding 4-wheelers. She loved to cook and made the very best fried chicken. She loved and was fiercely loyal to her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved playing with them and teaching them. She loved all children and children were drawn to her. Her role as Granny extended far beyond any bloodline and she became a second Mom to several of her daughter's friends who lost their mothers.

Faye loved a good joke and could be more than a little mischievous. She was an amazing storyteller, embellishing and exaggerating with wild abandon and especially loved telling stories about her childhood. WaHoo was Faye's game of choice and anyone who spent any time with her learned to play. The WaHoo table was a place for laughter, bonding, stories and maybe a little cheating on her part. Faye loved the Lord and believed the Holy Bible was the instruction book for life. She ministered to and shared her faith with many. She was the matriarch to a very large, loving family. The significance of her role was tremendous. She left shoes that can never be filled, and she will be forever missed by all who loved her.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Weakley, Jr., her son Bobby William Weakley, her parents and all her siblings.

Faye is survived by three daughters, Loretta Holland of Healdton, OK, Dana Schmidt and husband Tim of Mead, OK and Lana Hobbs and husband Raymond of Durant, OK, and daughter-in-law Gail Weakley, of Bennington, Ok. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be held on Thursday November 14, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Brown's Funeral Service in Durant, OK. Funeral services will be held on Friday November 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Brown's Funeral Service. Burial will be in Old Bennington Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Bennington, OK following the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
