Iris Jaoma Norris, a resident of Durant, Oklahoma went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday August 10, 2017, at the age of 88 years 6 months and 27 days. She was born on January 14, 1929 in Bennington, Oklahoma to Robert D. and Iva Ruffie (Baskin) Shoemake. Iris married Oscar Limuel Norris in Durant, Oklahoma on February 5, 1946.
Jaoma was a nurse by trade, having worked at a pediatrician’s office in South Carolina, and the Engle's Clinic in Durant for many years. She loved to read, and work in the garden. Iris looked forward to, and cherished, the time she spent with her family, and church family at the Armstrong First Baptist Church, where she was a member. She loved to cook for family gatherings, everyone looked forward to it because she was an amazing cook. Iris was extremely proud of all her family members who served their country in the Armed Forces.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her sons, Limuel Norris and wife Amy of Tyler, Texas, David Norris and wife Sheron of Jenks, Oklahoma, and Robert Norris and wife Sherry of Durant, Oklahoma; beloved grandchildren, Sean Norris of Gallup, New Mexico, Amy Norris Casey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ryan Norris of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hailey Norris of Tyler, Texas, Kaitlyn Norris of Tyler, Texas, Jason Norris of Evergreen, Colorado, and Whitney Norris Brewer of Durant, Oklahoma; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Norris in 1981, and followed by her parents, Robert (1987), and Iva (1989) Shoemake.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Armstrong First Baptist Church in Armstrong, Oklahoma 74729.
A church service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday August 12th at the Armstrong First Baptist Church in Armstrong, Oklahoma with Pastor Monty Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Old Church Cemetery in Bennington. Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Wood, Gary Buchanan, Gene Jackson, Huel Brumley, Michael Wood, and Rick Campo.
