Raymond (Ray) Hill, Jr., a resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, left this life and joined his Savior on Monday May 15, 2017 at the age of 61 years 1 month and 28 days. He was born March 17, 1956 in Albany, Georgia to Raymond Alexander and Jimmie (Shoemaker) Hill, Sr. Ray married his beloved Angela in Durant, Oklahoma on September 24, 1988.
Ray was an extremely talented musician. He was a retired Band Director who had worked at Marietta, Poteau, Dickson, and Ardmore schools. Ray graduated from the Durant High School where he was an All-State musician, and recipient of the John Phillips Sousa Award. He was a member of the Durant Jazz Band during the 70's, and shared his talent with the church congregation of the 1st Baptist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma as a member of the praise and worship team.
Mr. Hill is survived by his daughters, Hannah Hill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Alice Murphy Box and spouse Mariah Box Murphy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister, Susan Johnson and husband David of Durant, Oklahoma; and nephew, Aaron Johnson of Durant, Oklahoma.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Jimmie Hill, St.; wife, Angela (Sperling) Hill; and brother, Larry Glenn Jackson.
Memorial may be made to the Durant Band Booster Club in lieu of flowers.
Family Hour will be Thursday May 18th before the service from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Chapel in Durant, Oklahoma. The chapel service will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. Alton Fanning officiating.
Interment will follow at Old Church Cemetery, Bennington, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Johnson, Chris Greg, Ryan Riley, John Riley, Steve Weave and Tim Webster.
