John A.(Sammy) Smith a resident of Mead, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the age of 75 years 2 months and 24 days. He was born in Mead, Oklahoma to Hershel Gilbert and Edna Winona (Davis) Smith on Saturday, August 26, 1939. Sammy married Jeanette Hale in Calera, Oklahoma on June 26, 1958.
Sammy was a member of the 7th and Beech Church of Christ. He was a hard worker who spent his life as a self-employed rancher. Sammy enjoyed Shootin-the-bull with his many friends and acquaintances at the Kiersey Corner Store in his hometown of Mead. He loved and cherished his family and looked forward to the times they spent together, especially enjoying his grandchildren.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Jeanette Smith of the home; sister, Joyce Beal of Dallas, Texas; son, Hershel Smith and wife Pam of Mead, Oklahoma; daughter, Annette Johnson and husband Steve of Mead, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amy Quarles and husband Aaron of Denison, Texas, Brad Wigington and wife Kayla of Mead, Oklahoma, Matt Smith of Mead, Oklahoma, Amber Smith of Mead, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Smith of Mead, Oklahoma, Kolby Smith of Mead, Oklahoma, Braylee Wigington of Mead, Oklahoma, Brooklyn Snow of Mead, Oklahoma, Presley Quarles of Denison, Texas and Brayden Quarles of Denison, Texas; brother-and sister in-law, Bobby Thompson and wife Jane of Colbert, Oklahoma.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Winona Smith; son, Sammy Joe Smith.
Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A Funeral Service in honor of his memory will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Bro. Robert Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Mead Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Brad Wigington, Aaron Quarles, James Talley, Winston Moss, Don Teel, Kenneth Chester, Hopper McKinney and Otis Talley.
