Walter Lee Sanford left this life suddenly on Thursday, March 24, 2022, in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 81. He was born on December 4, 1940, in Barber, Arkansas to Melvin Berry and Edith Irene (Lancaster) Sanford. He Married the love of his life, Claudette on June 2, 1963, in Durant, Oklahoma.
Walter worked in the metal fabrication industry he was employed at Oscar Mayer for 23 years. He was a Deacon at the Mead Baptist Church in Mead, Oklahoma for 45 years where he taught young boys in his Sunday School classes, and he served on the Fire Department Board of Directors. Walter loved hunting, camping, and spending time with his family. He was very crafty and could make or fix anything. Walter will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Left behind to cherish Walter’s memory are his loving wife, Claudette of the home, son Chad Sanford and wife Jaime of Mead, Oklahoma, son Brandon Sanford and wife Emily of Calera, Oklahoma, and his daughter Brooke Sanford and wife Logan of Durant, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren Bailey Sanford, Colt Sanford, Henry Sanford, and Mia Sanford.
Preceding Walter in death is his infant son, Chad Berry Sanford, parents Mel and Edith Sanford, and one sister Barbara Jean Horne.
Family hour will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, from 6-8:00pm at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 2:00pm at the Mead Baptist Church in Mead, Oklahoma with Bro. Kerry Groce and Don Cochran officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Mead Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Wall, Wes Schreier, Scotty Wesley, James Pratt, Brent Sexton, Robert Dickerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Schreier, Bob Hill, and Virgil Manners.
