Tommy Beal Nix, a long-time resident of Bryan County, passed from this life on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 in Mead, Oklahoma at the age of 82. Tommy was born Wednesday, April 22nd, 1942 in Durant, Oklahoma to the late Ross Beal Nix and Fay Elizabeth (Cook) Nix.
Tommy grew up in the Durant, Calera, and Idabel area as a young boy and is a graduate of Durant High School. Tommy married his sweetheart, Nedra Sue Percell, on April 6th, 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Durant. He worked as a carpenter most of his life and was last employed with the state when he worked at Beavers Bend at Hochatown for several years. Tommy has lived the past thirty years in Mead.
Tommy enjoyed the outdoors and can be found in the woods hunting, or at any pond fishing. He loved taking his kids and grandkids camping just about every weekend. Tommy was also an avid dirt track racecar driver which he did for many years with Sue as they competed winning trophies. They enjoyed many motorcycle trips across the country and meeting people from all over.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nedra Sue Nix on January 31st, 2017; a brother, Don Nix; and sister, Dot Russell.
He is survived by his daughters, Tiana Helms of Mead, and Tonya Whatley of Rockport, Texas; grandchildren Dyllon Helms and wife, Arlene, and sons Garrett and Wesley, Savana Parnell, Dakota Stinson and wife, Lauren, and their son Colson, and Celeste Stinson; 2 sisters Libby Bauner and husband, Jimmy and sons, Bart Bauner, and Jason Bauner and family, and Debbie Nix and son, Bobby Joe Pate and family; and nephew, Anthony Nix and family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 8th, at Brown's Funeral Chapel with Bro. Tommy Green officiating. Committal services will follow at Mead Cemetery in Mead.
The family will receive and greet friends from 6-7 PM on Thursday, November 7th, at Brown's Funeral Home.
