Jack David (J.D.) Morgan a resident of Mead, Oklahoma, and Air Force Veteran, passed into the arms of his Savior in Sherman, Texas on Saturday December 30, 2017 at the age of 82. He was born in Durant, Oklahoma on March 29, 1935 to Benny and Ruby (Rino) Morgan. J.D. married his beloved Ellen in Armstrong, Oklahoma on August 25, 1953.
J.D. served his country proudly as a member of the United States Air Force until his retirement. He then went on to become a farmer, rancher, and mail contractor. J.D. was a faithful member of the Mead Baptist Church. He cherished his family and any time they spent together was precious to him, J.D. especially loved telling stories about his grandchildren.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife Ellen of the home; children, Rick Morgan and wife Judy of Durant, Oklahoma, Brenda Morgan of Mead, Oklahoma, and Terry Morgan and wife Charlotte of Silo, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Tena Morgan of Greenville, Texas; brother, Boyd Morgan and wife Jeanette of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Mary Lou Bond and husband Buddy of Durant, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Burr DaVault and wife Bobbie of Mead, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, James DaVault and wife Betty of Arlington, Texas, sister-in-law, Aileen “Nena” Pratt of Durant, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, John DaVault and wife Sally of Durant, Oklahoma, sister-in-law, Ruth Ann “Polly” Atkinson and husband Denny of Roanoke, Texas, brother-in-law, Mike DaVault and spouse Katherine of Burleson, Texas, and brother-in-law, William Dixon of Bokchito, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jeremy Morgan of Smithfield, North Carolina, Julie Roberts and husband Jack of Durant, Oklahoma, Rikki LaRoche and husband Jeremy of Pottsboro, Texas, Amy Potts and spouse Steven of Durant, Oklahoma, James Pratt and wife Amber of Durant, Oklahoma, Kyle Morgan of Greenville, Texas, Brandi Morgan of Durant, Oklahoma, Charli Butcher and husband William of Cartwright, Oklahoma; Britney Bush and Cody Wheeler of Durant, Oklahoma, Bryce Bush of Silo, Oklahoma, and Kristen Shoemake and husband Garrett of Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Drew, Parker, Hunter, Morganne, Alexis, Paisley, Garrett, Zackary, Blane, Jarett, Addison, Allison, Jackson, Jeslyn, Hailey, Riley, Mia, Briar, Jayce, and Alexi; great-great grandchildren, Kaydance, and Brantly.
Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Ruby Morgan; in-laws, Jake and Florence DaVault; son, Kenneth Morgan; brothers, Olin Morgan, JC Morgan, Neal Morgan, and Robert Morgan; sisters, Betty Gainer, Blanche Roberts, and Ruby Accord; sisters-in-law, Delpha Townsend, Wanda “Judy” Curtis, Faye McLarry, and Dorothy Dixon; brothers-in-law, Bill McLarry and John Curtis.
Family hour will be from 6-7:00 PM Wednesday January 3rd at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A church service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday January 4th at the Mead Baptist Church in Mead with Bro. Kerry Groce officiating. Burial will follow at the Mead Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons James Pratt, Steven Potts, Jeremy Morgan, Bryce Bush, Kyle Morgan, William Butcher, Jack Roberts, Jeremy LaRoche, Garrett Shoemake with honorary pallbearers Garrett Potts, and Joey Gooch. Full military honors will be conducted by Tinker Air Force Base.
