Willie Andrew Green, 88, of Durant passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009 in Calera, Oklahoma. Willie was born on May 17, 1920 in Pirtle, Oklahoma to W.J. and Ina Freeman Green. He attended school in Pirtle and later worked as a farmer and carpenter. He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in Africa, Europe and the Pacific during World War 11. He married Ruby Lee Riley in Caddo, Oklahoma on November 10, 1939 and they were blessed with two children.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing and spending time with friends and family.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Leaford, Elmer, Roy, Sid, Leslie and Hoyle; sisters, Lula, Ruby and Audie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Ina Pagel and husband David of Durant and Vickie Bickers and husband Ronnie of Bonham; sister, Pearl Brooks of Sherman; brother Doyle Green of Durant; grandchildren, Sarah Lee Wood and husband Brice, Jerry Wood and wife Rebecca and Andrew Pagel; great grandchildren, Jayz Cain, Cody Wood and Holle Wood; special niece raised as a sister, Margaret Rushing and husband J.W.; and other relatives and a host of dear and loved friends.
We have no idea how we will go on without him. He was the anchor in our life and always there when anyone needed him. He loved his family and friends and couldn't do enough for them. His wisdom guided his family each day and he will be greatly missed.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Calera Manor Nursing Home staff and Unity Hospice for the love and care they showed to Willie.
The family will gather on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 4:00 PM in the community room at Browns Funeral Service. This will be an informal gathering of family and friends on Sunday March 8, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Brown's Funeral Service to share memories and say goodbye. Browns Funeral Service, Durant and Texoma Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
