Wilma Allene (McKay) Gowin, a resident of Durant, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 6th, 2017, at the age of 92.
Wilma was born, August 13, 1925, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, the daughter of Samuel McCrum McKay and Rozella Henderson McKay.
In 1950, Wilma married Maurice E. Gowin. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1998. Together they raised 5 children.
Wilma was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Donna Kay, brothers Eldon McKay and Elmer McKay, and sister Arvella McKay McLemore.
She is survived by her children Betty Brown, San Antonio, Texas, Carolyn Dills (Dale), Durant, Oklahoma, Alan Gowin, Durant, Oklahoma, Ronald Gowin, Durant Oklahoma, Teri McGinnis (Randy), Durant, Oklahoma. 9 grandchildren, Barbara Littlejohn, San Antonio, Texas, Jerry Lynn Brown (Carla), Edmond, Oklahoma, Billy Hunnicutt (Eva), Durant, Oklahoma, Kaci Walston (Tyler) Durant, Oklahoma, Keri Juarez (Juan), Caddo, Oklahoma, Kelly Moreno (Manuel) Durant, Oklahoma, Karla Gowin, Durant, Oklahoma, Adam McGininis (Chelsey), Sherman, Texas, Rachel McGinnis, Durant, Oklahoma. 12 great grandchildren, Ethan Littlejohn, Emily Littlejohn, Nathaniel Brown, Andrew Brown, Michael Miller, Cruz Maurice Gowin, Octaviano Juarez, Jaiden Grimes, Mercedes Grimes, Madison Gowin, Christian Martinez, Preston Maurice McGinnis. Brothers, Bobby McKay (Donna), Wichita, Kansas, Jack McKay (Darlene), Anadarko, Oklahoma, Larry McKay (Donna), Guthrie, Oklahoma. Brother-in-law, Loren McLemore, Carlsbad, New Mexico. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews and special friends.
Wilma loved to garden; She and Maurice (Curly) kept beautiful flower gardens. She was a wonderful cook, hosting delicious holiday dinners for her family throughout the years. After coming to Durant in 1964, she began a long career as a loving caregiver for many children of Southeastern students and area families, and her grandchildren.
Wilma's family would like to express their thanks to Encompass Hospice for the compassion, and love shown to Wilma and her family while in their care.
Family Hour: Sunday, October 15th from 6pm-7pm
Service: Monday,
October 16th at 10am located at Western Meadows Baptist Church.
