Jim Turnbull, aged 77, passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2017 in Sherman, Texas. Jim was born on November 14th, 1939 in Kemp, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated from Borger High School in Borger, Texas. Jim continued his education at Midwest University where he studied graphic design, and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in business.

For a brief period of time he worked in Sherman, Texas in metal fabrication before he transitioned to working for the Choctaw Nation and Chickasaw Nation in the gaming industry. Jim went on to start his own business, Power Bingo, in Durant, Oklahoma, and later expanded his business to Tulsa, Oklahoma. After 25 years in the gaming industry and the birth of his daughter, Jessi, he retired in Denison, Texas.

Jim was a civil-minded and dedicated individual who was loved and respected by those he met. He was an active member of the community over the course of his life and involved in several local organizations. In college he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge BPOE 287 in Denison, Texas, and such a dedicated member of the Church of Christ that he aspired to be a minister in his youth.

He is survived by his daughter Jessi Turnbull, brother Sammy Turnbull and wife June Cottingame, sister Donnett Smith and husband Billy C. Smith, brother Billy Turnbull and wife Susan Turnbull, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Donald “Blackie” and Lucy Turnbull and brother Richard Turnbull.

Jim’s family and friends will remember him as a hard-working man, a loving father, and a loyal friend. A family night will be held on Friday, January 27th, from 6:00-7:00 pm at Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Oklahoma; services will follow Saturday, January 28th at 10 am in the same location. Internment will be at Kemp Cemetery in Kemp, Oklahoma.

The register book may be signed and condolences sent to the family online at www.cunninghamfuneralhomesok.com. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. The family would like to thank those who helped care for Jim in his later years for their dedication and support.
