Wesley N. Sweeney passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2001 in Denison, Texas at the age of 87 years 2 months and 1 day. He was born on Monday, June 16, 1924 in Kemp, Oklahoma to John R. and Willie Mae (Gray) Sweeney. Wesley married Christene “Polly” Burnett on Monday, June 1, 1953 in Durant, Oklahoma. Wesley was a member of the Baptist faith.
He loved to play dominoes, winning many tournaments. His favorite pastimes were softball, fishing, hunting and watching John Wayne movies. He especially enjoyed babysitting his grandaughters and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Christene "Polly" Sweeney; sons, Terry Dan Sweeney of Hendrix, Oklahoma and Tony Sweeney of Kemp, Oklahoma; daughters, Sherry Pittman and husband Ricky of Kemp, Oklahoma, Valerie Goodman and husband Joey of Hendrix, Oklahoma; grandaughters, Faith Goodman and Ariel Goodman of Hendrix, Oklahoma; brother Frankie Sweeney of Owasso, Oklahoma and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Sweeney is preceded in death by his parents, John and Willie Mae Sweeney; brothers, Wilburn, Johnny and Jesse Sweeney; sisters, Ethel Sweeney and Clydie Bell Erickson.
Family Hour will be 6-7:00 P.M. Friday, August 19, 2011 at Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Kemp Cemetery, Kemp, Oklahoma with Bro. Roger Speers officiating.
