Wanda Sue Waitman Cooper, also known as 'Mayor" or "Deputy Dog," was born February 16th, 1943 in Kemp, OK to Albert and Willie Washer Waitman and passed on January 29th, 2024 in Durant, OK. She was born and raised in Kemp and attended Kemp Schools. She worked many years at Miss Kings and Texas Instruments. She was the Mayor of Kemp, Oklahoma for 35 years until her health would not let her continue. She did so much for the town and people of Kemp. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star of Colbert, OK. Wanda loved playing Santa for the kids in various communities, dancing, traveling to Nashville, and singing at church, karaoke, and at home with her CDs. While being at the nursing home, she enjoyed playing dominoes with other residents.
Wanda married Gene Lockaby, at the age of 16, and had two daughters, Linda and LaDonna. Following their divorce, she married Marvin Cooper. Marvin passed away in 1983.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents Albert "AP" and Willie Waitman, sisters Twylia Smith Bohannon and Betty Flavin, brothers RC Waitman and Robert Waitman. She is survived by daughters Linda (Roy) Davis of Denton, TX, LaDonna Earley (Donald Coonrod) of Kemp, OK; grandchildren Delinda Davis of Denison, TX, Stephanie (Jepathy) Fellabaum of Magnolia, DE, Tiffany (Miguel) Aguilar of Cooper, TX, Beverly (Bryan) Ewing of Paris, TX, and Wayne (Courtney) Davis of Krum, TX; great grandchildren Elissa, Jenna, Bailee and Nikki White, Carmen and Elizabeth Chagas, Vanessa Aguilar, Keely and Madison of Magnolia, DE, Isaac and Simon Ewing; great great granddaughter, Lyla White; Brother Sam Waitman and Sister Mary Kuneman both of Kemp, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Wanda Sue Cooper will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning February 2, 2024 in the Kemp Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Speers officiating. Burial will follow in the Kemp Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Davis, Bryan Ewing, Joe Hammers, Bill Capshaw, Jerry Audley and Jim Bengtson. Honorary Pallbearers are Frankie Chalk and Sammy Welch. The Family night will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Kemp Baptist Church.
