Elsie Lavon Burden Shannon

Elsie "Lavon" Burden Shannon, resident of Gainesville, Texas, passed away on April 1, 2025. Lavon was born on July 22, 1938, in Clarita, Oklahoma, to Watson and Elsie Lenora (Parker) Burden. Lavon married Earl Shannon on September 27, 1953. After her retirement she moved to Gainesville and met a very special man, A.J. Price and shared her life with him until his death on December 9, 2018. Lavon worked at Uniroyal Tires in Ardmore, Oklahoma, for 25 years where she later retired in 1996. She then worked as a security guard at the Gold Mountain Casino in Ardmore, Oklahoma, for 8 years until once again retiring in 2013. Lavon was of the Holiness faith and attended church at Family Life Church in Gainesville, Texas.

Mrs. Shannon is survived by her two sons, Ken Shannon and wife Lisa of Gainesville, Texas, and Earl Shannon of Gainesville, Texas. Grandchildren, Stuart Hunt of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jeff Shannon of Denton, Texas, Ritchie Shannon and wife Kelly of Comanche, Oklahoma, Amber Hicks and husband Joe of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Eric Shannon and wife Billie of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Great-grandchildren, Stuart Hunt Jr., Lydia Hunt, Garrett Shannon, Colby Shannon, Lynnlee Shannon, Alexis Campbell and husband John, Aubrey Carlson, Ryan Hicks, and Ashtyn Hicks. Great-great-granddaughter, Hilton Campbell. Step-grandchildren, Joey Westover, Nikki Yeargan, Stephen Yeargan, and Jason Westover. Lavon is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She had many friends on Facebook that she kept in contact with. Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, David Shannon, brother's, Bill Burden and Andrew Burden, sister's, Elizabeth Shannon, Dianne Gilbert, Cinda Valasquez, and Linda Bailey.

Family night will be held on April 6, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Brown's Funeral Service chapel in Durant, Oklahoma.

A graveside service will be held on April 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Jackson Cemetery in Bennington, Oklahoma, with son's Ken and Earl Shannon officiating.

Pallbearers will be Stuart Hunt, Stuart Hunt Jr., Jeff Shannon, Ritchie Shannon, Garrett Shannon, and Eric Hanson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Hicks, Tom Cox, Jose Alenjandro, and Colby Shannon.

Services are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
