Loyd Sample passed from this life and into the arms of our Holy Father on Monday, November 8, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 91. Loyd was born April 5, 1919 to Cliff James and Rhoda (Dallas) Sample at Shady Grove, Bennington, Oklahoma. He attended grade school at Shady Grove and high school at Bennington. Loyd was from a farming family of 10 childeren; seven boys and three girls.
On July 29, 1940 at the age of 21 he joined the Army at Fort Sill, Ok. He was a part of the 38th Infantry Division. He saw combat with the 102nd Infantry Division in Germany, Battle of the Bulge, and Rineland. He received the Combat Infantry Badge with 2 Silver Stars, a Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (6AWD), Army Occupation Medal with Germany clasp, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon, EAME Service Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Ribbon. He retired from the Army on March 31, 1967. Loyd also worked at the Indian Nation Turnpike in Antlers, Ok. He was an active member of the VFW Post 10636 and was a very dedicated Veteran; making sure that the flags were in place every Veteran’s Day.
Loyd married Jalasca Daniels on December 28, 1971 in Atoka, Ok. They were married for 38 years. Loyd will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him dearly. Loyd is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Ann Sample of Bennington, Ok. Brothers, Cecil Sample of Cement, Ok., Oliver Sample and wife Donna of Chickasha, Ok., Verline Sample and wife Joyce of Sherman, Tx. Sisters, Evelyn Sample Griffith and husband Aubry of Durant, Ok., and Arline Sample Epperson and husband Joe of Chickasha, Ok., Step-Sons: Jimmy Daniels and wife Maryland of Bennington, Oklahoma, Gerald Daniels of Boswell, Oklahoma, Step-Daughters: Janette Daniels of Kansas City, Missouri, Patricia Sherefield and husband Donnie of Bennington, Oklahoma,Grandchildren: Jeff Johnson and wife Lynda of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Krista Trower and husband Chris of Hoover, Alabama, James Daniels and wife Kecia of Durant, Oklahoma, Julie Daniels of Bennington, Oklahoma, Jarrod Daniels of Arlington, Texas, Missy Galagher and husband Smith of Sawyer, Oklahoma, Justin Daniels and wife Jennifer of Hugo, Oklahoma, Jacob Daniels and wife Nocona of Soper, Oklahoma, Angela Jackson and husband Lane of Bokchito, Oklahoma,Lisa Sherefield of Bennington, Oklahoma, Great-grandchildren:Dylan Johnson of Fort Hood, Texas, Alexandria Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brooke and Brittany Dinan of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cameron, Charlie, and Quinn Trower of Hoover, Alabama, Jaston and Jaren Daniels of Durant, Oklahoma, Jennifer, Jodi, and Jordan Daniels of Bennington, Oklahoma, Cobb Robison of Bennington, Oklahoma, Hallie Daniels of Arlington, Texas, Kountri and Kade Daniels of Soper, Oklahoma,Jace Daniels of Soper, Oklahoma, Hunter, Whitney, and Luke Jackson of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Great-great grandchild:Jackson Cole Wood of Bennington, Oklahoma, Brother-in-law Otto Pamplin Jr. and wife Louise of Bennington,Oklahoma, Sister-in-law Earlene Sharp of Georgetown, Texas, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Loyd was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Jalasca Sample, parents, Cliff James and Rhoda Sample, brothers, Earl Sample, and Oscar Sample, and sister Edna Sample Brandon.
Family Hour will be 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00P.M Thursday November 11, 2010, First Baptist Church , Bennington with Bro. Jay Perry and Heath Murrah officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery Bennington, . Serving as pallbearers will be Ray Sample, Randy Sample, Wayne Sample, Justin Daniels, Jacob Daniels and Jarrod Daniels.
