William Rigdon "Rig" Thomas

thomas-w-r

August 9, 1948 ~ February 3, 2025

William Rigdon (Rig) Thomas was born on August 9, 1948, and passed on February 3, 2025.

Rig leaves behind a deeply loved wife, Karen, and daughters, Casey and Bobbi.

Bobbi's children-Grandson, Ty Herndon, wife Devan, and great-granddaughter, Tyler. Grand-daughters, Ryan and Jaci Herndon.

Casey's children -Grandsons, Kasen and Christian Davis, and granddaughters Micha Davis and Kodi Martin.

The grandkid's brought great joy. Regular dinners were enjoyed where conversation flowed easily, and laughter was heard throughout the house.

Rig is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Taylor, and several nieces and nephews who were all very dear to him.

In his younger years, Rig loved to play baseball. His mother called him "Riggy" and in the Thomas family baseball was a way of life. He was a left-handed pitcher who lived off a knuckle ball and a mean curve that often had hitters swinging in the dirt.

His college years were spent at Southeastern State College. He was a 3-time all-conference pitcher who also played first base. Rig was the 3rd pitcher in Southeastern baseball history to secure a no hitter and for over 30 years held the record for most shutouts (it has since been tied). He was inducted into the SOSU Hall of Fame in 2000.

In later years, he enjoyed watching OU Women's Softball, playing golf, and playing softball- something he missed a lot in later years. He also loved to watch his girls, and later his grandchildren play ball (or just horse around).

He and Karen were members of the Bushnell Baptist Church.

Rig was preceded in death by his father, Homer Leroy (Choc) Thomas Sr., His mother, Fay Rigdon Thomas, and two brothers, Homer Leroy Thomas Jr. and Robert Tate (Bob) Thomas.

Pallbearers will be Rig's grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers, some of whom have passed (though their memory lives strong) are Paul Stanford, Doug Evans, Marvin Smith, Marcellus Buckner, Jerry Kuykendall, Max Townsend, Jerry Mowles, and Steve Walker.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the Highland Cemetery Pavilion with Reverend Dennis Pena officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warrior Project at support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
