Janet Sue Meeker Spoon

anet Sue (Meeker) Spoon, a beloved family member, and lifelong resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this earthly life, and joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the age of 79. She was born in Durant, Oklahoma to Carroll Edward and Lois Margaret (Hunnicutt) Meeker on January 10, 1937. Janet married her best friend, and husband, Bill Spoon in 1955, they were married for 60 years.

Janet was a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant. She and her husband Bill ran the Spoon Grocery Store, side by side, for many years. Janet cherished her family, and the times they spent together, she considered them her greatest blessing in life.

Mrs. Spoon is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Spoon of the home; daughter, Karen Damron and husband Skip of Durant, Oklahoma; son, Keith Spoon and wife Glenda of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kyle Damron of Houston, Texas, Kristi Henning and husband Todd of Durant, Oklahoma and Cody Spoon and wife Beth of Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Hayden Henning, Logan Henning, Aislyn Bracewell, Keira Bracewell and Paitlyn Spoon all of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Carrolleen Hedgecoke of Durant, Oklahoma; and brother, Jerry Meeker and wife Susie of Denton, Texas.

Mrs. Spoon was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Lois Meeker; and brother, Jim Ed Meeker.

Family hour will be from 7-8:00 PM on Sunday, November 13th at the Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A church service in honor of her memory will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 14th at the First Baptist Church with Bro. James Robinson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Spoon, Kyle Damron, Todd Henning, Skip Damron, Shawn Hendricks, Justin Hendricks and Clint Tawwater. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
