Dwight Lindbergh “Lindy” Smith was born at home on Friday, September 16, 1927 in Yuba to Augustus Jacquelin “Gus” and Nodie Elvie (Parker) Smith. He passed from this life on Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Yuba at the age of 81. Lindy lived in Yuba all of his life where he attended and graduated from Yuba High School. He had over 25 years of service on the Yuba School Board and was a member of The First Baptist Church in Yuba. He married Peggy Gibbs on March 15, 1952 then later married Martha Butler on September 14, 1987.Lindy was a farmer and rancher for most of his life. He went to real estate school in Dallas and was in real estate investment and sales for a number of years. He was a long time member of the Red River Valley Car Club, an avid aircraft pilot and one of his hobbies was restoring antique cars. Lindy also enjoyed working in the bee yard and honey barn. He joined the Yuba Baptist Church and was baptized in 1989 and to a lot of people’s surprise, the church is still standing.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; Brothers, A.J. “Red” and Leo Smith; Sisters, Oleta Dobbins and Thelma Campbell.
He is survived by Wife, Martha of theYuba home; Son, Terry Smith and his sons Brandon and Joel Smith; Son, Marty Smith; Daughter, Michelle Smith Osborn and her kids Josh and Jessa Osborn; Step-Son, Gene Englutt; Step-Daughter, Renee Englutt all of Yuba; Great Grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Harwell and Elizabeth Paige Clark; Sister, Dolores Willard of Tennessee; Former Wife, Peggy Smith of Denison, Texas; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 24, 2009 at 2:00Pm at First Baptist Church in Yuba, Bro. Marty Hutchings and Micky Lyles will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Durant. Josh Osborn, Frankie Cranson, Joe Randy Lyles, James Ervin, Larry Felden and Don Osborn will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. Lyles, J.T. Gray, Don Hawthorn, Doyle Dobbins and Peanut Hamilton. Family visitation will be Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the funeral home from 6-8 PM.
