Sarah Thelma Shepard passed from this earth on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at her home in Roberta, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years 5 months 11 days. She was born on Tuesday, January 29, 1918 in Lone Grove, Oklahoma to Hayden and Bessie (Yandell) Simpson. Sarah married C.M. Shepard Jr. on Saturday, April 17, 1937 in Durant, Oklahoma.
She took pride in her role as a homemaker, farm wife and looking after the needs of her family. Sarah was a member of the Roberta Baptist Church for over 70 years. She loved her Sunday School Class and, in the past, she enjoyed reading, gardening, canning and crocheting. But most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Thelma's surviving relatives are sons, Ron Shepard and wife Mary Ann of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Tommy Shepard and wife Darlene of Roberta, Oklahoma; son-in-law, Kelly McDonough of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Ethel O'Connell of Lone Oak; grandsons, Steve Shepard and wife Tonya, Tom Shepard and wife Brandy, David McDonough and wife Deborah, Ken McDonough and wife Gina, Mark Shepard; Jon Shepard and wife Sara; grandaughter, Kim McKnight and husband Brad; 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson as well as many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by her parents, Hayden and Bessie Simpson; husband, C.M. Shepard Jr; daughter, Kay McDonough; grandson, Jason Shepard and her brother, Victor Simpson.
Family Hour will be Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Roberta Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Shepard, David McDonough, Ken McDonough, Brad McKnight, Jon Shepard, Mark Shepard, Clyde Wayne Robinson and Billy Jack Roberts; honorary pallbearer will be Tom Shepard (serving in Afghanistan).
