John M. Schlenker the beloved husband of Irene and resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this earthly life on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the age of 93 years 4 months and 24 days. He was born on Sunday, June 27, 1920 in Manfred, North Dakota to Mike and Marie (Houser) Schlenker. John married Irene Pepple the love of his life in North Dakota on Sunday, November 21, 1943.
John was a member of the Durant Seventh Day Adventist. He worked for Valley Ind. in Lodi, California for 30 years, and the Railroad. After John retired he and his beloved wife Irene loved to travel in their motorhome and golf. He made a hole in one at the age of 80. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 21, 2013.
Mr. Schlenker is survived by his wife, Irene of the home; son, Curtis Schlenker and wife Chary of Valley Springs, California; daughters, Johnnalyn Morrison and husband Kenneth of Durant, Oklahoma and Michelle Wagner of China Grove, North Carolina; sister, Evan Foul of Lodi, California; grandchildren, Krista Clark, Wendy McLaughlin, Tracy Nixon, Gina Hamilton, Matt Matthews, Jessica Taylor and Meagan Wagner; 15 great grandchildren.
Mr. Schlenker was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Marie Schlenker; one infant son, Gary; 7 sisters; 1 brother.
A Funeral Service in honor of his memory will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel in Durant, Oklahoma with Pastor Brad Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Morrison, Greg Hamilton, Dave McLaughlin, Bob Carra and Steve Satterfield.
