Vernon B.V. Reid

Vernon "B.V." Reid, 89, joined his beloved wife in heaven on November 10, 2016 at the Calera Manor in Calera, OK. BV was born to Reeser and Vera (Hodges) Reid in Maud, OK on July 29, 1927. He married the love of his life on May 14, 1962 in Atoka, OK.

Mr. Reid is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Rolater; sons, Joe Reid and wife Kathy and Stacy Reid and wife Lori Jo; brother, Ralph Reid and wife Betty; sister-in-laws, Wanda Reid, Nira Jones, and Elma "Poochie" Owen; five grandchildren, Amanda, Chris, Amy, Loryne and Hunter Blaze, and eight great-grandchildren; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jo (Mitchell) Reid; two grandsons, Joe Dale White and Justin Reid; brother, RV Reid, and his parents.

BV joined the Army on November 28, 1945. He received the Army Occupation , and WWII Victory Medals. He was a proud member of the VFW in Durant. BV retired from his position as the Street Superintendent with the City of Durant. BV and Betty enjoyed camping, family reunions, fishing, their 50's plus group, and their Abundant Life Church family. He also enjoyed working in his yard. BV was a devoted husband, father, uncle and pawpaw. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Calera Manor Staff, and for the generosity of the residents. BV loved you all! A special thank you to Hunter for her dedication to her pawpaw, and her job. She ensured he was happy, comfortable, and uplifted during his final days.

Family hour will be one hour before the service from 2-3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 15th at the Abundant Life Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Chuck Barrineau officiating. Caregivers/pallbearers are; Felecia Clegg, Tiffany Posey, Mindy Williams, Juanita Green, Crystal Russell, Chiquita Pope, Amanda Jackson and Xonia Zachry. Honorary pallbearer and special friend, Martin Boyd. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery.
