Kenneth L. Potter passed from this life on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma at the age of 75. He was born on June 10, 1946, in Meridian, Texas to Earnest Loyd and Iva Marie (Sumeral) Potter. He married his wife Sharon (Newell) on September 18, 2015, in Durant, Oklahoma at Calvary Baptist Church.
Kenneth proudly served in the United States Navy on an Aircraft Carrier. He graduated from OBU with a music ministry degree in 1968. He served as a Minister of Music in Neosho, Missouri and Joplin, Missouri. His life in the ministry was the most rewarding time in his life. He also worked at Lazy Boy in Missouri and on the railroad. He ended his career as a Wal Mart associate. Kenneth loved music, bible study, gardening, cooking, hiking, and birdwatching. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madill, Oklahoma, since January 2019. He will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Sharon, of the home. His son, Brian Potter and wife Kellie of Neosho, Missouri, daughters Kenna Lea Tuggle and husband Jim of Neosho, Missouri, Julie Guthrie and husband Daniel of Joplin, Missouri, stepdaughter Michelle Edmonds and husband Mike of Madill, Oklahoma and stepson Brian Burchfield and wife Amanda of Edmond, Oklahoma, and a brother Joe Potter and wife Judy of Moore, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandsons Kyle Potter, Nick Potter, Connor Keeling, Caleb Keeling, Tanner Edmonds, Hayden Burchfield and his granddaughters Ashlie Reed, Kimber Chew, Austyn Guthrie, Taylor Anderson, Hattie Burchfield, Hannah Burchfield, and Hayley Burchfield.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Earnest L. Potter and his mother Iva Marie Potter.
Family hour will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:00pm at the Highland Cemetery Pavilion. Funeral service will follow at 2pm with Bro. Darel Bunch officiating and serving as pallbearers will be Mike Edmonds, Tanner Edmonds, Brian Burchfield, Hayden Burchfield, Joe Potter, Daniel Guthrie, Nick Potter, , and Grayson Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Tuggle and Caleb Keeling.
