Helen "Joy Prator Mullins

Helen “Joy” Mullins of Grove, Oklahoma and formerly of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on April 27, 2019 at her home at the age of 91. Joy was born on October 26, 1927 in Dallas, Texas to C.J. and Ollie B. (Frady) Prater.

Joy married William “Bill” Mullins on August 11, 1946 and to this union were blessed with two children, Monny and Mecky. They moved to Durant in 1956 and lived here until 1964. They returned to Durant 1969 and Joy lived in Durant until 2007 before moving to Grove. Joy worked for Durant Public Schools and retired after 26 years. At the age of 48, Joy decided to go to college and graduated with honors from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. At 53 she took flying lessons in Grove and completed her solo flight. After moving to Grove, she worked for her son in law Dr. Yandell at Grove Eye Center. She was of the Baptist Faith and she was a member of Bushnell Baptist Church. She also enjoyed attending Grace Presbyterian Church in Grove for the past 12 and a half years and treasured the friends she made there. Joy was very active when it came to spending time with her family and friends, a pastime she cherished.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; husband and granddaughter, Misty Mullins Hall.

Joy is survived by her children, Monny Mullins and wife Stephanie of Durant, OK and Mecky Yandell and husband Buddy of Grove, OK; grandchildren, Katie Peebles Freeman and Bynum Mullins and wife Tegan; great grandchildren, Halee Hall Grimes and husband Justin, Wade Hall, Makalee Hall, Macee Hall, Jayde Freeman and Kameron Freeman and numerous extended family and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM. Friday, May 3, 2019 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Jon Hazell will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Richard Mullins, Boyd Burris, Bobby Burris and Billy Burris serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
