Roger Wayne Mayhue, of Durant, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Calera, Oklahoma, at the age of 69. He was born on April 14, 1955, in Amarillo, Texas, to Donald and Dessie (Riddle) Mayhue.
Roger's life was marked by a dedication to service and a passion for knowledge. He answered the call of duty and joined the United States Army. As a Sergeant in the infantry, he played a crucial role with the 2nd Armored Tank Division, known as "Hell on Wheels," where he was responsible for giving coordinates during pivotal moments. His military service was a testament to his courage and commitment to his country. His love of knowledge led him to complete his bachelor's degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. History was a passion of Roger's, and he could tell you anything regarding historical events.
Following his honorable discharge, Roger worked as a driver for Steger Lumber Co. His work ethic and reliability made him a valued employee and a respected coworker. Away from work, Roger was a man of many interests. He had a particular interest in electronics and could often be found listening to local scanners, staying up on the happenings in his community.
He is survived by his brothers, David Mayhue and wife Mandi of Sherman, Texas, and Ronald Mayhue and wife Patty of Rockton, Pennsylvania, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dessie Mayhue, and his sisters, Yvonne Scott, and Donna Zeiler.
A funeral service to honor Roger's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2025, in the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel. His burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
