Graveside services for Floyd Bond Mahanay, 83, of Calera, were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23 at Highland Cemetery Chapel with Pastors Dave Smith and Ross Kirven officiating. Interment followed in the Highland Cemetery.
Born October 16, 1926 in Marietta, to Floyd Fillmore and Mary Esther (Bond) Mahanay, he died Friday, December 18, 2009 in Calera.
He married Artherene (Wilkinson) on August 17, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in Durant. He graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1950 and also attended Texas A&M. Floyd enjoyed golf, football, and was an OU Sooner fan.
Floyd served in the 180th Infantry, 45th Division of the Oklahoma Army National Guard. He served in Germany in 1946, Hokido, Japan from 1951-1952 and Korea from 1952-53. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Floyd was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 45, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Elks Lodge, VFW, Kiwanis and Rotary Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd F. and Mary Mahanay.
He is survived by his wife, Artherene Mahanay of Calera; two daughters, Debby Eastland and husband, Fred of Whitesboro, Texas and Lou Anne Fields and husband, John of Durant; son, Floyd B. Mahanay, Jr. of League City, Texas; sister, Sue Burke and husband Glen of Durant; grandchildren, Michelle Connely, Mark Connely, Brian Mahanay, Megan Mahanay, Hannah Mahanay, Lori Taylor, Kurt Morris and Harmony Fields and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Sgt. Johnny Keithly, Col. Howard Frazier, Lt. Col. G.P. Gentry, Bg. Gen. Buster Smith, Tim Cotner and Fred Eastland.
