Lynwood Lilley, born June 5, 1925, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in Denison, Texas. Lynwood was born in Durant, Oklahoma, and was the son of Jerry O. Lilley and Iva Mable Wilson-Lilley.
Lynwood and his wife, Bessie, were married for 72 years. Their union resulted in three children. Lynwood had many accomplishments throughout his life.
Lynwood served in the armed services and was a tank commander during World War II, between 1943 and 1946. He served under Omar Bradley, also served on the Durant City Council for many years, served as Mayor of Durant from 1968-1969, was inducted as a Durant Oddfellow, a 32nd Mason, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, and was an Exalted Ruler. In his spare time, he loved to work in his garden, growing a variety of vegetables. He was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Lynwood was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his son-in-law Timothy Stachowski, Sr., and his son Michael W. Lilley.
Lynwood is survived by his daughter, Vicki Stachowski, and grandchildren, Erick Stachowski and David S. Stachowski (Brandy) of Durant; his son, David L. Lilley (Marty), and grandchildren, Jeremy Shannon (Kim) of Durant; Michael Knight (Nancy) of Rogers, Arkansas; and Mika Lampkin (Kale) of Ada; his daughter-in-law, Melissa Lilley of Durant; and grandson, Dr. Tristan Lilley (Laura) of Lexington, Kentucky; six great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, two great-great-granddaughters, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, OK, with Skip Robinson officiating. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Hospital, 501 St. Place Jude, Memphis, TN 38105. Donations may also be made through St. Jude's website.
