Malia Kay Johnson of Durant, Oklahoma and formerly of Indianola, Iowa was born January 9, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa to Doyle and Betty Smith Brittain and passed from this life on March 7, 2018 in Richardson, Texas at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 26 days.
Malia graduated from Indianola High School and continued her education at Marycrest College and Simpson College receiving her Bachelor’s Degree and later worked in health care administration. She married James Charles Johnson on August 9, 1992 and they moved to Durant in July of 1999. In her free time she enjoyed traveling, reading and pets. Most of all she dearly loved spending time with her family and friends.
Malia was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Reed and brother in law, Steve Weidner.
Malia is survived by her loving and devoted husband, James Charles Johnson of the home; beloved father, Doyle Brittain of Durant, OK; treasured son, Nathaniel Zachary Johnson and wife Machell and their sons, Daxton James and Zachary Tyree of Celina, TX; beloved sister, Susan Weidner of Buena Park, CA and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Rev. John Baldwin of the First United Methodist Church in Celina, TX will officiate. Interment will follow on Highland Cemetery with Paul Key, Sean Hall, Boone Johnson, Matt Skinner, Dylan Price, Scott Johnson, Josh Harmon and Joe Glick serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
