Thelma Turner Jackson, 94, of Durant passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma with family members at her side.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Durant, with the Rev. James Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery with Jim Stuteville, Eric Stuteville, Alan Brooks, Chris Markin, Matt Calkins, Gabe Jacobs, Buddy Shelton and Chris Cockrill serving as pallbearers.

Thelma was born March 30, 1913, in Yarnaby , Oklahoma, the only daughter of James Albert and Margaret Virginia Connelly Turner.

She attended schools in southern Bryan County, graduating from Yuba High School in the spring of 1931.

Thelma married Clyde W. Jackson the following September and they were married for 62 years before Clyde passed away in 1994.

Thelma was known for her kind and generous spirit and was happiest when making others feel welcome in her home. She was fond of sewing, baking, gardening, reading her Bible and visiting with family and friends.

Thelma was a very active member of the Durant First Baptist Church for many years until failing health intervened.

Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Furman, Fred, Troy and Harle Turner and granddaughter, Beverly Hankins.

Thelma is survived by son Don {Peggy} Jackson of Ingram, Texas, daughters, Margaret Sandlin of Birmingham, Alabama, Linda {Ron} Markin of Tyler, Texas, Mary Sue {Ted Wendt} Jackson of Modesto, California; twelve grandchildren: Susan {Chris} Cockrill of Bells, Texas, Jim {Mary Dougherty} Stuteville of Catonsville, Maryland, Jane Mozier of Odenton, Maryland, Leah Anne {Alan} Brooks of Durant, Karen {Gabe} Jacob of Durant, Eric {Charmaine} Stuteville of Durant, Pat {Buddy} Shelton of Poteau, Gina {Matt} Calkins of Saginaw, Texas, Maggie Cunningham of San Antonio, Texas, Beth Markin of Austin, Texas and Chris {Kerry} Markin of Bridgeport, Texas; nineteen great grandchildren, Alex Hankins, Cody Cockrill, Alexis and Amanda Mozier, Alysia and Alex Brooks, Sam Jacob, Jackson Stuteville, Robert and Michelle Pierce, Tatum and Taryn Shelton, Tyler Calkins and Isaac, Roman and Julianna Markin; sister-in-law, Betty Jackson of Oklahoma City and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. today at the Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to the Thelma and Clyde Jackson Endowed Scholarship at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 1404 N. Fourth Ave., Durant, Oklahoma or the First Baptist Church.
