Robert Earl "Dr. Bob" Hays II of Durant, OK passed away January 4, 2018 in Austin, TX at the age of 71. He was born on January 6, 1946 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Robert Earl Hays I and Margie Blake.

Robert graduated from Denison High School and later received a bachelor's, master's, and a doctorate in education. He worked as a college professor and was employed at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. After 25 years, Dr. Bob retired from the university. He was a member of Durant Elk Lodge and the First Presbyterian Church of Durant. In his spare time, he enjoyed, fishing, golfing, playing the guitar, listening and singing to Elvis and spending time with his family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Earl Hays and Margie Thomason; step-father Newt Thomason; and step-daughter, Jessica Stallings.

Survivors include his son, Robert Earl Hays III of Colorado; daughter Victoria Hays of Durant, OK; sister JaneAnn Epperly and husband Russell of Sherman,TX; brother, Jeff Thomason and wife Nina of Austin, TX; grandson, Roland Hays of Colorado; granddaughters, Brittany Lake and husband Patrick of Durant, OK, Brandi Baumann of Little Creek, VA (Brandi shares the same birthday as her Grandpa Robert), Deveney Harris and boyfriend Dustin Abernathy; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Lake, Sarah Inman, and Alec Abernathy; special friends, Julia Ringler of Denison, TX, Kathryn Hays, and JoAnn Howard along with many other extended family members and dear friends.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held 10:00 AM Monday, January 8, 2018 at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Dave Smith and Pastor Mike Manaugh officiating with special speaker and longtime friend Dell McClain. Family will accept friends Sunday evening from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
