Kathryn Rene Hays was born on December 24, 1956, to Bob "Joe" and JoAnn Howard in Durant, Oklahoma. She graduated from Durant High School in 1975 and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she earned her bachelor's and master's degree. She dedicated her life to serving as a teacher, Special Education Director, and a Principal for over 35 years.

Kathryn was a member of the Abigail Circle, she served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, and the one of the first nominated female member of The Elks Lodge. She was a faithful member of The First Presbyterian Church.She enjoyed reading, sewing, and spending time with her family, On March 15, 2025, Kathryn went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Earl Hays II, her parents Bob Joe Howard and JoAnn (Keener) Howard. Her grandparents Otis Keener and Idell Keener. Her daughter Jessica Stallings and her great grandson Roscoe "Carter" Lake, as well as her brother Bruce Howard.

Left to cherish her memories and keep her legacy alive are her Daughter Victoria Hays and spouse Darrin Wade of Durant. Her grandchildren: Brittany Lake and spouse Nick Southerland of Durant; Brandi Baumann and spouse Damian Reyes of Virginia Beach Virginia; Karen Elred of Grantspass, Oregon. Nieces: Mandi Villarreal and spouse Miguel of Durant, and Brooke Howard of Colgate, Grandson: Kendrick Hays of Durant, Granddaughter: Deveney Abernathy and spouse Dustin of Sherman. Great-granddaughter Nevaeh Lake of Durant as well as many other beloved family members that she loved dearly.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
