harrell-lb

August 4, 1940 ~ Jnuary 1, 2022

Leon Bert Harrell, a veteran of the United States Air Force, entered his eternal rest on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2022, at the age of 81. He was born in Siloam Springs, AR on August 4, 1940, to Paul Harrell and Vivian Bernice (Kirby) Harrell.

Leon served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He was passionate about country music, and was a singer/songwriter. He performed in clubs in OKC and also at the American Legion Post. He had produced his own music and even recorded songs in Nashville and received national airplay for a song called ‘You Move Me Baby’. He was a member of the Midwestern Country Entertainers Association. In an interview for the Oklahoma Entertainment news when asked what he would have people think of him, he replied, “I want them to think of me as one of the last of the good guys, wearing a white hat.” Although he didn’t practice a particular faith, he believed in God and had no doubt he would see his family again in Heaven. He was a talented thoughtful person who held a patent on his invention, the Bucket Tight. He was a man of many talents, inventor, building designer and business owner. Leon was a faithful friend who always found the time to attend his high school reunions in Savanna, Oklahoma.

Mr. Harrell is survived by his cherished children, Paul Harrell and wife Betsy of Rogers, AR; Jennifer Wilson and husband Rob of Tulsa, OK; and Cathy Lynch and husband Mike of Oklahoma City, OK; beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Katie, Michael, Cassie, and Dylan; multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; ex-wife, Molly Harrell, sister-in-law, Dorothy Harrell and partner and companion, Kim Denton.

Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Vivian ‘Bernice’ Harrell, and siblings, Kenneth, Pauline, Mary Catherine, twin Leroy, Dot, Gene and Linda.

Family hour will be one hour before the service from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Saturday January 8th at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Chapel in Durant, OK. A chapel service in honor of his life will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jesse West officiating. His earthly resting place will be the Highland Cemetery with James, Justin, Dylan, and Michael as his pallbearers.

Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, OK.
