Carol Jo (Hankins) Cornell was born on April 25, 1937, in Durant, Oklahoma to parents Luther and Lyda (Ladyman) Hankins. Carol Jo passed away on February 12, 2025, in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 87. She worked at Woolworth, Diaper Jeans, and Alliance Health Durant, formerly (Medical Center of SE). She married the love of her life, Jimmy Royce Cornell, on August 10, 1954, in Sherman, Texas. Together they had one daughter, Carolyn Sue.
Carol Jo is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Royce Cornell; parents Luther Erron and Lyda Novella (Ladyman) Hankins; brothers J W Holt and wife Mildred, Lloyd Holt and wife Evelyn, Gene Hankins and wife Norma, Luther Hankins Jr and wife Flo, and Bill Hankins and wife Lupe; sisters Louise Holting and husband Allan, Bille Pullens and husband John, Neta Malamma and husband Bill, and Doris Dean Hankins and son in laws Jerry Don Carter and Kerry Swindell.
Carol Jo is survived by her daughter Carolyn Swindell-Mongomery and husband Mike of Durant, OK; sister Dortha Jean Holbrook of White Settlement, TX; sister in law Poppy Hankins of Durant, OK; cousin Barbara Dyke and husband Howard of Walters, OK; grandchildren Jodi Michelle Buffalo and husband Gene, Chad Royce Carter and wife Chris, and Jermy Todd Carter and wife Brandi; great grandchildren Kylie Deanne Billings and husband Layne, Kaylynn Danielle Crawford and husband Steven, Cody Allen Buffalo, Sophia Realynn Carter, Kolby Leann Halley and husband Shawn, Morgan Cheyenne Feltman and husband Tim, Krystal Marie Roth and husband Jimmy, Mason Dunegan, and Khloe Dunegan; great great grandchildren Hagen and Hudson Billings, Rowan Crawford, Laken Buffalo, Karter Robison, Sailor, Kolson, Syrus and Zara Halley, Noah and Teller Feltman, Londyn Matthews, and Westin Wise; numerous extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Four Season's Nursing Center Staff and Centric Hospice Staff for the love and care they showed Carol Jo and her family.
Cremation services and have been selected by the family and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
