Pearlyne Carnes, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Durant community, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on June 5, 1936, in Ludlow, Oklahoma, to Ellis Ludlow, Sr. and Rhoda (Harrison) Ludlow.
Pearlyne dedicated herself to the care and comfort of others. She served with kindness and diligence as a housekeeper for King's Daughters & Sons Nursing Home and Calera Manor. Her work was not just a job but a manifestation of her innate desire to nurture and support those around her. Pearlyne found joy in the simple pleasures of sewing and making quilts, creating beautiful pieces that were both practical and filled with love. She delighted in cooking for her family and friends, leaving delicious memories for those she loved. An avid outdoorswoman, Pearlyne relished the times spent hunting and fishing, embracing the beauty and tranquility of nature.
A devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Pearlyne's legacy is carried on by her sister Merrill Thomas of Achille, Oklahoma; her daughters Linda Hornsby of Calera, Oklahoma, Sheila Carnes of Durant, Oklahoma, and Jennifer Carnes of Durant, Oklahoma; and her son Gerald Ludlow also of Durant, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren Aquanetta Ludlow of Denison, Texas, Missy Butler of Calera, Oklahoma, Joseph and Charles Swilling of Cumberland Cove, Oklahoma, Cody Carnes of Durant, Oklahoma, Ashley Collins of Colbert, Oklahoma, Rhoda Carnes of Durant, Oklahoma, and Jarod, Karenda, and Eric Ludlow of Ada, Oklahoma, along with numerous great-grandchildren, will forever cherish the memories and lessons she imparted.
Pearlyne was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis Ludlow, Sr. and Rhoda Ludlow, her sons Hubert (Sonny) Homer, Eddie Homer, and J.B. Carnes, her daughter Ramona Carnes Swilling, her brothers and one sister, grandsons Joey Hornsby and David Carnes, and granddaughter Amber Ludlow, as well as her great-granddaughter Staci Ludlow.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, in the pavilion at Highland Cemetery with Brother Jesse West officiating. Those serving as pallbearers are Cody Carnes, Skyler Perkins, Blade Perkins, and Joseph Collins.
