Mrs. Emma Grace (Garrison) Capshaw, age 89 passed away on November 24, 2016 at Calera, OK.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1927 at Liberty, OK, the daughter of Henry and Floy Garrison. A graduate of the Kemp Oklahoma High School, class of 1944, she later earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Education from Southeastern State College in Durant, graduating as an Honor Student and member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Society, Texas State Teachers Association, MENSA and was a Board member for a time with the Teachers Credit Union.
Mrs. Capshaw spent more than 20 years teaching elementary students in the Sherman Independent School District. Even today, some of her former students still stay in contact with her, a testament to her love of children and the art of teaching.
In 1951 she married the love of her life, William Loyal (Bill) Capshaw and remained his devoted wife for more than 40 years. Along with him, she was active in the 36th Infantry Division Association, serving one term as the Auxiliary President. After retiring, they traveled in their beloved RV and spent several seasons driving shuttle buses at the Grand Canyon National Park, which they both loved. She was a life-long member of the Hendrix, OK Baptist Church and active in Church planning activities in Indiana.
Mrs. Capshaw was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Raymond.
She is survived by three sons, David of Calera, OK; Gary of Denison, TX; and Bill of Hendrix, OK; two brothers, Donald of Calera, OK; Bill of Mustang, OK; and sister Lillie of Calera, OK. She also treasured 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 28th at the Kemp Cemetery in Kemp, OK with Bro. Roddy Arnold officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Capshaw, Bill Capshaw, Nick Denman, Jr., Waylon Capshaw, Blane Watkins and Bobby Brownfield.
