Susie Calhoun, a resident of Durant, Oklahoma, joined her precious Savior in Sherman, Texas on Thursday July 26th, 2018 at the age of 98. She was born in Hartshorn, Oklahoma on February 20, 1920 to William and Rebecca Sue (Neal) Byrne. Susie married Charles Curtis Calhoun in February of 1937.
Susie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant, for over 50 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher for the beginners. Susie was the secretary at the Calhoun Agency on 3rd street for many years. She loved taking care of her family and home. Susie had a loving, caring heart and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, and others. When she was 93 she wanted to get her driver’s license back, so she completed a computerized driver’s license exam, and passed. The examiners complimented her on her driving skills.
Mrs. Calhoun is survived by her son, Charles W. Calhoun, Sr. of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Deborah (Debbie) L. Mills of Highland Village, Texas and Charles W. Calhoun, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Melissa Cottle and husband Matthew of Edmond, Oklahoma, LeeAnn Reed and husband Alan of Phoenix, Arizona, Stephanie Sisk of Denton, Texas, Tiffany Neuberger and husband Bryan of Owasso, Oklahoma, Brittany Calhoun of Moore, Oklahoma, Joshua Calhoun of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Caleb Calhoun of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-great grandchildren, Jacob Sisk of Denton, Texas, Lily Reed of Phoenix, Arizona, Kinsley Neuberger of Owasso, Oklahoma, Sophia Cottle of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Asher Reed of Phoenix, Arizona.
Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Curtis Calhoun; parents, William and Rebecca Byrne; brother, Ray Byrne, and grandson, Donald Curtis Calhoun.
A church service will be at 2:00 PM Monday August 6th at the Hatchett Memorial Chapel, First Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. James Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery with Matt Cottle, Austin Lowrie, Charles Calhoun, Joshua Calhoun, Caleb Calhoun, Jerry Polson and Brian Neuberger as pallbearers.
