Melvin E. Box, 70, of Durant, Oklahoma was born Sunday, July 6, 1941 in Matador, Texas to Jeff and Melba (Boggs) Box. He passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 70 years 1 month 24 days. Melvin was a member of the Abundant Life Temple in Durant, Oklahoma.
He enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the R.S.V.P., and spending time with his family. Melvin loved to travel across the United States researching genealogy, stopping at any libraries he could find.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Nell Box, Durant, Oklahoma; children, Jim Box of Durant, Oklahoma, Connie Davis of Durant, Oklahoma, Angelia Kerr of Durant, Oklahoma, Randy Claborn and wife Nancy of Durant, Oklahoma, Tammy Fietkau and husband Ron of Milledgeville, Georgia; grandchildren, Ben Box, James Box, Daniel Davis, Whitney Kerr, Tracey Day and husband Brad, and Kevin Claborn all of Durant, Oklahoma; Daniell, Eric and Tristan Fietkau of Milledgeville, Georgia; great grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden and Skylar of Durant, Oklahoma; sisters, Marilyn Faulk and husband Bill of Durant, Oklahoma, Janie Harrison of Lawton, Oklahoma; brothers, Dewey Foust and wife Suzanne of Ashville, North Carolina and Keith Foust of Burkburnett, Texas as well as many other relatives and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Cora Dell Box; mother, Melba Foust; sister, Sherry Foust; and a grandaughter, Julie Hollowell.
Family Hour will be 7:00~8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011, Abundant Life Temple, Durant, Oklahoma with Pastor Tim Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Faulk, Kevin Faulk, Rick Lehr, Stan Perkins, David Maples and Gene Evans.
